Close of Biz: New Year’s Resolutions

by Julie Shannon

As we say goodbye to 2019, many of us look back on this past year and reflect on the professional goals we set for ourselves. For some, they were met. For others, maybe not somuch, but 2020 is just a few weeks away (where did the time go?) and it’s another chance to make new resolutions and set your sights high for a great year ahead. We asked South Jersey professionals what their most important professional goal is for 2020:

Sherri Smith, director of marketing, Parker McCay
“Next year my goal is to add video to our digital marketing strategy and social media campaigns. Video is a powerful and effective way to connect with an audience and adding this critical communication vehicle to our toolbox will allow our thought leaders to disseminate information in a way that is engaging, digestible and shareable.”

Gregory A. Lomax, attorney, Lauletta Birnbaum
“It’s my professional goal for 2020 to continue to represent clients in high-stakes litigation with our skilled and dynamic team. I’m confident that we will continue to expand our portfolio and build our firm’s reputation as the go-to commercial litigation firm in this market.”

George E. Duffield Sr., CEO and co-owner, National Integrity Title
“What a year of tremendous strides—a new headquarters, expanded staff and advanced tools for greater communications and streamlined operations. For 2020, we look to build upon these accomplishments and promote growth by bolstering our client commitment, fostering realtor relations and developing strong ties within Evesham Township—our new home.”

Julie Strohlein, CPA, associate partner, Alloy Silverstein
“In 2020 I want to be a better mentor. I need to take the time to teach and thoroughly explain concepts to staff members and resist the urge to just make corrections myself. I can make my organization stronger by helping to develop the skills of our staff.”

Molly O’Leary Grimm, marketing and communications manager, Flaster Greenberg PC
“Being a full-time law firm marketing professional and new mother has its challenges, but one of the most rewarding aspects of both jobs is having the ability to balance a career that I love and homelife in a fulfilling way. This year, my goal is to connect with more working parents in the area from all industries to offer/gain support and advice on the trials and tribulations of parenthood and become an advocate for other working parents.”

Kristina Kohl, managing principal, Becoming Sustainable and HRComputes
“My most important professional goal for 2020 is creating a culture of belonging as we move into the fourth Industrial Revolution. Building a workplace culture that truly values individual talents, perspectives and requirements is crucial to our shared future success.”

Patrick Ryan, president and CEO, First Bank
“My goal for 2020 is to give back to the communities that we serve by supporting economic growth from a business level and an individual perspective.”

Rachael Brekke, attorney, McDowell Law
“As we continue to grow our presence in South Jersey, I want to prioritize our clients and make sure they will always think of McDowell Law as their local law firm.”

John Torrence, managing partner, Masso Torrence Wealth Management
“I am committed to improving the efficiency and effectiveness of our business through better use of technology and systemized processes so we can spend even more time focusing on our clients.”

Chelsea Carter, partner, Morgenstern Waxman Ellershaw, LLC
“One professional goal I have for 2020 is to coordinate a client appreciation event, which I hope will provide educational and networking benefits to clients, as well as engage other members of our staff. We are a small firm and working to strengthen our client relationships is always a top priority.”

David Suleski, president and founder, #TechStarters

“#TechStarters’ goal for 2020 is to continue the course of growth; retain and expand our experienced teams of IT, website and SEO experts; place emphasis again on introducing more value-added services to existing customer plans; place emphasis on keeping customer business plan costs much lower than local competitors, while still producing excellent levels of 24/7 customer service and technical support.”

Teresa Sydorko, director of communications, Delco Development
“In 2020, it is my goal for one of our residential properties to receive a state or national award.”

Ryan Diaz, sales engineer, DelRen HVAC, Inc.
“My professional goal for 2020 is to lead others.”

Jerry Caruso, vice president, Networks Plus
“My professional goal for 2020 is to continue the phenomenal growth spurt Networks Plus has experienced in 2019 and continue to provide the exceptional service that comes with growth.”
