Moving Forward
T&M Associates Profile
Over the past 25 years, engineering services in New Jersey’s municipalities have shifted. From frequent advancements in technology to an increase in female engineers, this field is changing for the better. For Jacqueline Dirmann, Vice President, Regional Client Leader, Local and County Government for T&M Associates, these factors have provided better solutions and more meaningful community outcomes.
How the engineering field has grown…
When I first started as an engineer, the regulations changed about every five years, and now, it seems to be changing every other year. We have to be able to absorb the regulations quickly, apply them to our projects, convey them to mayors and administrators and then help the public understand them. We are also able to utilize technology when responding to the public or preparing budgetary project scopes and estimates using software like Google Earth, Nearmaps, AI and GIS mapping systems. It’s all about responding accurately using the right technology and communicating effectively.
Making an impact…
I have projects that I started 20 years ago—one was a sports field that began as a simple grass field and grew to a multi-sports facility. The site used to be dilapidated and now brings more life to the community and neighborhood. Being a female in this industry has been amazing as well. I’m excited to see more female engineers and clients. It fills me with pride to stand alongside so many talented female engineers that I get to work with on a day-to-day basis.
