Going Green, Saving Green
South Jersey Gas offers energy-efficient programs to fit customers of all sizes and manage energy usage in affordable, economic ways.
South Jersey Gas delivers safe and reliable natural gas to its more than 420,000 customers across the region and is focused on providing affordable, energy-efficient solutions.
“As a company,” says Frank Vetri, “we feel we offer a balance in delivering energy, efficiency and affordability.”
Vetri is the manager of South Jersey Gas Energy Efficiency Programs, a facet of the company committed to bringing affordable, energy-efficient resources to customers in order to save energy and money. As the company’s energy-efficient programming has grown, so has the number of customers taking advantage of the savings these programs bring.
To date, South Jersey Gas Energy Efficiency Programs have saved over 150 commercial and industrial customers more than $9.2 million in rebate dollars and have distributed $1.87 million dollars in 0% interest loans, as well as over 900,000 therms of energy, reducing carbon emissions across the region. It’s an impressive amount, and the company wants to get the word out to even more commercial and industrial customers.
Reducing energy usage, saving money
There are two main energy efficiency program pathways at South Jersey Gas—equipment upgrades/replacements and system maintenance.
The company offers equipment upgrades and replacements for all customers, including commercial, industrial, and multifamily facilities. South Jersey Gas understands that energy efficiency is not one-size-fits-all. With deep expertise across customer types, the company identifies the most effective opportunities for energy-efficient improvements—delivering tailored solutions that drive long-term savings for each individual customer.
System maintenance is another big draw beyond equipment upgrades, ensuring that equipment fueled by natural gas is operating at peak performance. Proper maintenance also extends the life of these critical systems.
When customers upgrade and maintain these systems, they can increase reliability, comfort and long-term value, all while reducing energy consumption.
“Promoting affordability and energy-efficiency is important to us and to our customers,” Vetri says. “South Jersey Gas programs are designed to help customers save money while supporting a more sustainable future. Multiple program pathways and incentives exist to accommodate all customer segments, from large commercial entities to small family-owned businesses, ensuring broad participation,” Vetri explains.
Helping customers of all sizes
“We tried to design a program with various pathways to fit all different customers,” Vetri says, adding this includes multifamily, commercial and industrial clients. “The largest to smallest can all participate.”
According to Vetri, South Jersey Gas Energy Efficiency Programs are well received by commercial customers.
This certainly seems to be the case with the historic First Baptist Church of Wildwood, which received more than $143,000 in incentives toward its $170,940 energy-efficiency upgrades with South Jersey Gas. These upgrades—which include smart thermostats, fuel use economizers, pipe wrap insulation, condensing hot water boilers and much more—are projected to create an annual 6,000 therms in fuel savings.
“Participating in the South Jersey Gas Direct Install Program has been a real blessing for our church,” says Bob McLaughlin, trustee at First Baptist. “The program has allowed us to create a more comfortable and sustainable environment for our congregation while saving energy and money at the same time.”
Interest free financing available
In addition to helping its customers secure incentives to offset costs, South Jersey Gas currently offers five-year, 0% APR financing through its on-bill repayment program. This can spread project costs over a longer timeframe, helping customers fit energy efficiency into their budget.

“We can walk any customer through the different program pathways, identify programs that potentially meet their needs, and provide them with the optimal incentive to make their project affordable and impactful,” Vetri says.
