Nicholas F. Talvacchia Partner Cooper Levenson, P.A.
South Jersey Biz: Attorney Spotlight

by Staff
A partner at Cooper Levenson, P.A., Nicholas F. Talvacchia serves as chair of the firm’s Land Use Practice Group, focusing his practice on land use, real estate development, redevelopment, environmental matters and economic incentives.

Prior to beginning his legal career in 1988, Talvacchia worked for the Atlantic City Planning Department during the early days of casino gaming, a transformative period marked by a surge in large-scale development proposals. That experience provided him with a front-row seat to the complexities of land use and brought him into close collaboration with attorneys in the field, ultimately inspiring his decision to pursue a legal career.

“I learned a significant amount about land use,” Talvacchia recalls. “That experience ultimately motivated me to go to law school and become a land use attorney.”

Now a highly respected attorney with decades of experience representing a wide range of local and national clients, Talvacchia spoke to us about his career, the value of mentorship and the importance of balance.

On what he finds most rewarding…
The most rewarding aspect of being a land use attorney is seeing your client’s projects come to life. There is a deep sense of satisfaction involved in guiding a project from idea to completion.

On mentorship…
Mentoring young attorneys is critical for their professional development. Providing hands-on experience helps newer lawyers build the skills necessary to better serve clients and create a practice of collaboration and excellence.

On navigating challenges…
One of the most common challenges in land use is managing expectations around timing. The development process can be lengthy and complex, so it is critical to work closely with clients and consultants to streamline approvals and keep projects moving forward as efficiently as possible.

On recharging…
Learning to step away from work is important. Spending time with family and friends—and making time to travel—provides the perspective and energy needed to stay focused and effective.
