South Jersey Biz: Engineering Showcase

by Staff
Since first beginning her career in mechanical HVAC design in 2007, M. Elaine Dasti has witnessed the engineering profession undergo a remarkable transformation.

But just as important as the advancements that have reshaped how the industry operates has been the increased presence of women who have made their mark in the engineering world. “When I entered the field, women in engineering leadership were still uncommon. Today, there is a much more intentional focus on inclusion, mentorship and creating pathways for diverse talent,” Dasti, SVP and National Market Leader, Buildings & Facilities at T&M Associates, says.

As a result, Dasti takes great pride in being able to serve as an inspiration and role model to future generations of young female engineers.

“When I began my career, I rarely saw women in the rooms where decisions were being made. That absence made me realize how powerful representation can be, not just for visibility, but for confidence, belonging and ambition,” she says. “As I’ve moved into leadership roles, I’ve become increasingly committed to mentoring women and demonstrating what strong female leadership looks like in our industry.

“One of the most rewarding parts of my career has been the opportunity to build—from designing mechanical systems for buildings to developing an MEP team and ultimately growing into a national multidisciplinary team leader. Watching people and teams succeed, especially those I’ve mentored or advocated for, has been incredibly fulfilling.”
