Jo-Ann Weiner has more than 45 years of experience in the tax field, including 35 at the IRS before starting J.L. Weiner & Associates in 2012. She specializes in the unique area of forensic tax accounting, using her accounting, auditing and investigative skills to conduct an examination into the finances of an individual or business.

 

What I do is tax controversy resolution; I’m really a problem containment specialist. People hire me because they have tax problems with the IRS or the state, and they need solutions. I help people who have exposure to penalties, interest, tax issues they don’t agree with or possible criminal charges; if their prior advisor made a mistake; or if a divorce is looming.

 

Some of these issues are very complex and you can’t solve them by yourself, you need help. The system is too complicated to navigate an effective resolution on your own. I worked for the IRS for 35 years, so I am very familiar with the system and how to navigate it.   It’s one thing to read the Internal Revenue Code and Regulations; but it’s quite another to understand it, to know how to apply it and when to apply it, and that’s why people hire me.
