A proactive, well-connected network can do incredible things by pooling the skills, resources and dedication to positive change found within its wide-reaching connections, which is what the Community Planning and Advocacy Council (CPAC) has endeavored to do since 1938.

“Our main focus and goal is to bring grassroots nonprofits together, and help build nonprofits to fulfill all areas of the community to build stronger communities,” explains President & CEO Anita Wemple.

Housing needs, prevention, maternal and mental health, early childhood and senior services are all among the service organizations it supports, in addition to efforts and programs that proactively empower its neighbors—like the upcoming Oct. 25 community resource fair made possible by a grant from the Campbell’s Foundation.

“We do a lot of advocacy and education, which is really making sure that the community has a voice,” Wemple adds.

With more than 300 agencies and organizations in its network, CPAC’s firsthand knowledge of how to connect people to the best resources ensures the best results.

“We’re also the liaison between county, state and federal, so we receive dollars from those different levels to then give and facilitate throughout the community,” Wemple says. “The impact is incredible, and helps other nonprofits meet the needs of the community.”

With so many partners and supporters advancing CPAC’s mission, recognizing those forces of good is an opportunity the nonprofit eagerly seizes through its annual fundraising Civic Leadership Gala, taking place Oct. 10th.

“It’s a great time to just acknowledge all the people and organizations that are doing great things in our communities,” affirms Wemple. “It is so powerful to see the kind of nominations that come in … from a lifetime achievement for people who’ve been doing this work for a long time to young people who are  making an impact already.”
