When Kerry Breen began her business venture, she had several creative ideas—but the ultimate vision involved working alongside her sons, Erik and Mark. A decade later, Independent Spirits Distillery is successfully operated by the trio, who are always creating new ideas. 

“Mark is very experimental with flavor profiles. He goes places that I wouldn't even think to go. For example, our chocolate whiskey was entirely Mark, and Erik made the spirits [and] the formula,” Breen says.

Visitors rave about the distillery’s limoncello and espresso liqueur, and the ever-evolving flavors incentivizes multiple visits in order to try them all. The newest option is blackberry liqueur sourced from a local farm, showcasing the family-team’s commitment to the community. Mutually, the community has come to know their familiar faces and welcoming nature.

“I'm really in this place where I'm so proud and so in love with the idea of the boys being involved with the distillery; that's what I’m trying to share with the community,” Breen says. “It's not just me anymore…they are the future of the distillery.”

That family-feel can be found when tasting one of Independent Spirits Distillery’s 11 craft spirits: each one a labor of love carefully crafted by the team on-site. 

“In production, we authentically make every drop of it,” affirms Breen.

With seasonal events, an open door for community collaborations, private event rentals, and a tasting room open to the public on weekends, creativity and drinks flow freely.
