
In late October, it was announced that the boards of directors of both American Water Works Company and Essential Utilities, Inc., unanimously approved a definitive agreement to combine in an all-stock, tax-free merger. The union will create a leading regulated U.S. water and wastewater public utility; the combined company, which will continue to use the American Water name, will be headquartered in Camden, though Essential’s Bryn Mawr and Pittsburgh offices will each continue to maintain a strong operational presence.
Last month, it was announced that Rowan University, Rowan College of New Jersey and BAYADA Home Health Care have launched a collaboration that not only addresses the region’s nurse shortage but also creates a debt-free pathway for those aspiring professionals to advance their education and careers through Rowan’s accredited, flexible programs. The first-of-its-kind workforce development partnership provides a tuition-assisted Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program designed for future nurses enrolled in BAYADA’s Advance to LPN program supported by Rowan University. Beginning in January, the inaugural cohort will take courses at Rowan University, creating a streamlined path from home health aide to LPN.
The AtlantiCare Foundation honored four scholarship recipients during its Second Annual Scholarship Breakfast, held Nov. 24. Each recipient received $5,000 through the Virginia “Ginny” Gormley Master of Social Work Scholarship and the Elizabeth “Betsy” Gilbertson Nursing Scholarship. Each scholarship recognizes two women whose work shaped the health and well-being of communities across South Jersey: The former honored Tina Baez and Beth Ann Bates, AtlantiCare team members pursuing master of social work degrees, while the latter went to Ketan Parmar and Elizabeth Zeck, both of whom are students beginning or continuing accredited nursing programs.
It was announced early last month that Atlantic City Electric was named a 2025 Trailblazer Impact Honoree by the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce and the African American Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey in recognition of a sustained commitment to DEI in both the workplace and the communities it serves.
