Early last month, it was announced that Rowan University, the National Aerospace Research & Technology Park and the Atlantic County Economic Alliance signed a memorandum of understanding, the starting point for building both a statewide and national academic consortium dedicated to advancing aviation technology, safety and workforce development. The trio will serve as the original members and facilitators of the consortium effort as they develop the framework for a broad coalition of research universities, nonprofit organizations, government agencies and private-sector companies.

Elected officials have presented Rutgers University–Camden with two critical-funding checks recently. On Sept. 9, New Jersey Assembly Majority Leader Louis D. Greenwald presented its law school with the $100,000 he had secured in funding for its clinical program, which both enables students to understand structural inequities and assists those individuals who have limited or no other options for help. Then Assemblywoman Carol Murphy and Assemblyman William F. Moen Jr. joined Rutgers University–Camden students and staff later in the month to highlight a $3.2 million investment by the state to support student success initiatives at the university, which represents monetary support secured through this fiscal year’s state budget to not only renovate the student center but also promote civic engagement and support students’ academic goals.

Atlantic City Electric and Rowan College of South Jersey celebrated the completion of a major energy efficiency project at the college’s Cumberland County Campus in Vineland. The Sept. 10 event featured a ceremonial check presentation recognizing more than $111,000 in incentives provided by Atlantic City Electric through its retro-commissioning energy efficiency program—incentives that covered all of the engineering services and 70% of material and labor costs. The project, which included upgrades across numerous buildings, is expected to reduce annual energy use by 284,409 kWh, or approximately 7% of the campus’s total electricity consumption.

On Sept. 2, Stockton University and Brookdale Community College announced the renewal of their Transfer Pathways program, a partnership that has helped students smoothly transition into Stockton’s four-year bachelor’s program since 2018.
