Breakdown

A Camden-based development project was one of two in the state recently given the green light.

What Happened: During its December meeting, the board of the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) has approved Aspire tax credit awards to develop a mixed-use project in Camden.

What It Means: Aspire is a financing tool supporting an array of real estate development projects, and its tax credits are described by NJEDA Chief Executive Officer Tim Sullivan as “having a tangible and beneficial impact on the State’s urban communities.” The approval for Camden’s mixed-use development project—Parkside Place I and Parkside Place II—will include residential units, retail space and a federally qualified health center (FQHC), and will replace the likes of blighted properties and vacant lots along Haddon Avenue with two newly constructed buildings.

What’s Next: The four-story Parkside Place will house the FQHC, which will provide OB/GYN, family practice, pediatric, dental and behavioral care, while the ground floor of the three-story Parkside Place II will include more than 4,000 square feet of retail and office space. Upon the project’s approval, Sullivan noted that these developments “will help drive long-term growth and prosperity across the state by providing high-quality, affordable housing, as well as critical health care and social services for families and seniors.”

On the Move

During its recently held 106th annual meeting, the New Jersey Hospital Association installed Mark Stauder of Hackensack Meridian Health as its board chair for 2025.
