AtlantiCare is now offering Aquablation therapy, a cutting-edge treatment in prostate care that utilizes the new AI-powered Hydros Robotic System. AtlantiCare becomes the second health care provider in the state to offer this technology.

The New Jersey Economic Development Authority’s (NJEDA’s) Main Street Recovery Program handed out more than $32 million in loans and grants to more than 1,200 small businesses last year, the organization announced recently. Since the program was created back in 2021, NJEDA has given $167 million to more than 5,000 small businesses. 

The New Jersey Food Council has chosen Wawa’s Jason Read as its newest chairman. Read, who previously served as the food council’s vice-chairman, is Wawa’s director of store operations in Central and North Jersey, overseeing 115 stores in those regions. 

The Cooper Foundation was the recipient of a $555,000 grant from the Roots & Wings Foundation. That money will be used to help bolster efforts to provide health care and resources to low-income families throughout the region.

Stockton University has created a Community Advisory Board to engage with community stakeholders, create relationships that help enhance the university experience and help with other goals that will promote the school being recognized as a regional Anchor Institution.

Earlier this month, The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey launched a new Veterans Health Initiative to provide funding to veterans organizations and lend support in behavioral health, housing and food security, and economic opportunity.

Mercer County officials recently signed a project labor agreement for $5.7 million in stadium renovations at Trenton Thunder Ballpark. The agreement requires union labor from local building trades for updates to the 31-year-old stadium so it meets MLB guidelines in an effort to attract a professionally affiliated minor-league team.

Visit Atlantic City announced the integration of DO AC’s brand and assets under the unified Visit Atlantic City name on Feb. 5 in a strategic move combining both leisure and meetings marketing and communications, which aims to create a cohesive destination image that resonates with tourists and business travelers alike. 

The Burlington County Commissioners recently announced that they have appointed local law firm Connell Foley LLP as independent special counsel to review the 2024 general election, as well as report their findings and recommendations for improvements in response to reports of many polling locations’ unacceptable lines and wait times. 

In December, Rowan College at Burlington County (RCBC) became New Jersey’s first two-year institution and its third one overall in the Science Education Alliance-Phage Hunters Advancing Genomics and Evolutionary Science Program, an initiative of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute that aspires to increase undergraduate interest and retention in the biological sciences through immersion in authentic, valuable and accessible research. As a program participant, RCBC will offer two new biology courses: Phage Discovery in fall 2025 and Phage Bioinformatics in spring 2026.

Cherry Hill-based NEW ROAD Construction Management was recently awarded the construction management contract in connection with referendum projects throughout Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District. Projects will include paving, roofing, windows, doors, fire alarms, and HVAC upgrades throughout eight schools.

In honor of both Martin Luther King Jr. Day and its core value of community, SJI and its subsidiaries South Jersey Gas and Elizabethtown Gas, continued the company’s tradition of honoring the civil rights leader’s memory with its eighth annual Day of Service Jan. 20 as part of Stockton University’s Annual Day of Service, a yearly event that unites more than 500 students, community members and community partners to take on typically more 15 on- and off-campus projects. Additionally, SJI and its two gas subsidiaries recently made charitable contributions totaling $500,000 to the nonprofit New Jersey SHARES for customers who need assistance with their utility bills.

January marked the 125th anniversary of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 102, a milestone that the union celebrated with its 3,000 members across New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Leaders of both Cooper University Health Care and Rowan University are planning to create a joint innovation center, which would both support a researcher consortium and boost medical technology commercialization with the intent of bringing real-world solutions from the lab to the marketplace.

According to a recent report from the Lloyd D. Levenson Institute of Gaming, Hospitality and Tourism, part of the School of Business at Stockton University, Atlantic City’s casino operators reached a record-setting industry high in 2024 for total annual gross gaming revenue. Reaching nearly $5.7 billion surpasses 2023’s record high of $5.24 billion by 8.7%—the first time the industry exceeded the 2006 peak of $5.22 billion.

Officials in the Gov. Murphy administration announced late last month that the state of New Jersey has achieved 5 gigawatts of installed solar capacity, more than doubling its solar energy output since 2017. 

Now that Camden County commissioners approved the purchase of a launch site from the Camden County Municipal Utilities Authority on Jan. 16, a $1.1-million boat launch is in the works. The site, proposed for a location near the Camden-Pennsauken border’s current parking lot, would provide access for kayakers and other visitors at Gateway Park in an effort to improve parks, trails, recreational access and more along the Cooper River and the Delaware River's back channel.
