Sewell’s first coworking space aims to promote growth in the region and provide support to emerging businesses.
A unique partnership between the law firm of Lauletta Birnbaum, LLC, the Gloucester County Chamber of Commerce, Rowan University and Berkshire Hathaway Properties has given birth to Sewell’s first —and so far only—coworking space. Incutate serves the needs of startup and emerging growth companies in the southern New Jersey region.
“Being based in Gloucester County, we felt it was important to form Incutate (pictured) as a means to help advance our region’s growth and to increase its drive for entrepreneurship and innovation,” says Frank Lauletta, one of the firm’s founding members.
While Incutate’s name was derived from the words ‘incubate’ and ‘technology,’ Lauletta says the aim is to curate a broad array of tenants to form a collaborative environment.
Seminars, training programs and startup business advice, including a weekly legal roundtable with a Lauletta Birnbaum attorney, are all at the disposal of Incutate’s tenants.
Members can also take advantage of Rowan’s internship program with a dedicated advisor to help find the right students to assist on a wide range of projects from marketing and social media to software and app development, among others.
“Saddled with high startup costs and little-to-no revenues, many startup companies often cannot afford to invest in organizational structures, intellectual property protection, legal advice, financial and accounting guidance and other commercialization support,” explains Lauletta. The incubator-type approach enables small companies to keep costs low, while taking advantage of the coworking space’s resources.
On-site property management is provided by Berkshire Hathaway Home Services, which owns the building, and leasing has been fairly robust to date. All of Incutate’s 11 private offices are currently occupied as are 10 of 17 cubicles, though there is room for expansion. The space formerly housed a large call center and was gutted and redesigned with room for growth in mind. There are a variety of options available to prospective tenants including cubicles, semi-private and private offices and open desk memberships that start at just $100 a month. All levels of membership offer access to Incutate’s amenities including two spacious conference rooms, Wi-Fi, kitchenette, fitness center and modern lounge.
Tenant interaction is one of Incutate’s main goals and has been a key to its success. “This environment has given us a unique perspective on how other businesses both serve their clients as well as manage and grow their businesses providing us an ongoing, fresh perspective as we ourselves continue to adapt and evolve,” says Anthony L. Panto, principal at Panto Wealth Strategies, one of the original tenants. “The Incutate environment is ideally suited for that sole proprietor or micro business who wishes to both give and receive ideas and best practices to help their business as well as their fellow tenants. It’s been a fabulous experience.”
